True friend
Outside the boundary of a village there was a big banyan tree. Many birds were nesting on that tree. People coming and going from there were also resting under the shade of that tree.
A crow named Laghupatanak lived on that tree. Once Lagupatnak was flying to the village to see if there was anything to eat. At this time, he saw a black man carrying a net.
Seeing that, the crow thought, "This wicked Pardhi must have walked towards the wada tree. So if our bird brothers may be in danger....! The crow returned to the banyan tree just like that. And said to all the parties, "This evil Pardhi is coming to ensnare you by throwing grain." If you follow the temptation of eating grain, you will fall into that trap!
Pardhi soon came near the tree and dropped the net and sat beside it.
At that time, the king of pigeons named Chitrageeva was flying in the sky in search of food with his family. His eyes saw the grain thrown by Pardhya. Even though Lagupatanak was telling that Chitragriva 'no nako', Chitragriva and his family fell on that grain. In fact, Chitragriva himself is very intelligent and clever but what will he do if there is a crisis in Chitragriva's destiny?
Chitragriva along with his family got caught in that trap. Pardhi was happy to see many pigeons caught in the net. Pardhi came running with a stick to kill those pigeons. With that, Chitragriva ordered all the pigeons to forcefully fly into the net.
With that, the pigeons in the net reached the sky. As Pardhi started chasing them, the pigeons started flying fast. Finally Pardhi turned back blaming his own fate.
Chitragriva, realizing that Pardhya had passed through the ordeal, said, "A rat named Hiranyaka is my friend. It will help to set you free.”
Hiranyak was living in a hillock. On reaching there, Chitragrava called Hiranyaka for help. With that Hiranyak came running. Chitragriva requested to break the noose of the net by telling the truth of what had happened. Hiranyaka began to liberate Chitragrivas out of love for friends and to help those in distress. Then Chitragriva said to Hiranyak, "Break the noose of my family first." It would not be right for the king to put his subjects in trouble and get out of trouble before everyone else. So do as I say.''
Hiranyaka was very happy to hear Chitragriva's thoughts. Hiranyaka freed Chitragriva's family first and then Chitragriva. When Chitragriva thanks Hiranyaka, Hiranyaka exclaims, "Call me in case of trouble." I will rush to help.''
Meaning: A friend who comes running in times of trouble is a true friend.
