The wisdom of the lion
One day in a forest a hunter came for hunting. Seeing him, the forest animals started running away in fear. A lion saw that, he said to the running animals, "Oh, you have nothing to fear when a powerful animal like me is your king." While the lion was saying this, an arrow came and entered the lion's paw. The lion roared like that. Running away on three legs, a fox saw and said, "Vanraj, just now you were talking about bravery and strength, then why are you running away in fear." On this the lion said to the fox, O father, though I am the greatest of all animals in strength, there is no other animal equal to man, who is powerful in intellect.'
Meaning: Physical strength falls short of intellectual strength.

सिंहाचे शहाणपण
एका जंगलात एके दिवशी एक पारधी शिकारीसाठी आला. त्याला पाहून जंगलातील प्राणी घाबरून सैरावैरा पळू लागले. एका सिंहाने ते पाहिले, तो पळणाऱ्या प्राण्यांना म्हणाला, "अरे माझ्यासारखा शक्तिमान प्राणी तुमचा राजा असताना तुम्हाला घाबरण्याचे काहीच कारण नाही."सिंह असे बोलतो न बोलतो तोच सूं सूं करत एक बाण आला व सिंहाच्या पंजात घुसला. सिंह तसाच विव्हळला. तीन पायावर पळत सुटला, एका कोल्ह्याने पाहिले व म्हणाला, "वनराज आताच तर आपण शौर्याच्या, शक्तीच्या गप्पा मारत होता, मग आता का घाबरून पळता आहात.' यावर सिंह कोल्ह्याला म्हणाला, अरे बाबा, मी शक्तीने सर्व प्राण्यांत श्रेष्ठ असलो तरी माणूस हा प्राणी बुध्दीने सामर्थ्यशाली आहे त्याची बरोबरी करणारा दुसरा प्राणी नाही.'
तात्पर्य : बुध्दीच्या सामर्थ्यापुढे शारीरिक सामर्थ्य कमी पडते.
